Job DescriptionWSP’s multidisciplinary Process Infrastructure and Design team seeks an energetic and responsive Lead Electrical and Controls Engineer for full‑time positions across multiple locations. The role focuses on electrical infrastructure design, Owner Engineer responsibilities, and project delivery for environmental infrastructure and industrial facilities.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with leadership abilities and communicate effectively with direct reports and service leaders.
- Support the team’s workload and resource planning.
- Delegate to the Electrical Service line leader as required.
- Work independently and collaborate in cross‑discipline teams to meet project goals.
- Develop and perform quality reviews for detailed electrical engineering documents and technical specifications.
- Serve as Engineer‑of‑Record for projects or components of varying complexity.
- Lead electrical engineering and technical design teams and manage scope, schedule and budget for electrical discipline.
- Lead and develop electrical designs for LV and MV voltage systems, including calculations, equipment data sheets, specifications, control panels, motor schematics, single‑line diagrams, hazardous area classification studies, lighting protection, grounding, and lighting plans.
- Review and provide senior review of electrical computer models using software (ETAP, SKM, Easypower, etc.), perform analysis, and create technical reports (load flow, short‑circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, harmonic analysis, equipment and component sizing, etc.).
- Evaluate and select heavy industrial and mining electrical systems and materials.
- Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, PLC/DCS Layouts, and IO wiring.
- Configure and develop programming for controls equipment (PLCs, HMIs, DCS systems).
- Prepare and revise brownfield and greenfield documentation in various phases of design and construction.
- Prepare drawings, engineering and bid packages for contractors and clients.
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship for junior and intermediate engineers, designers and drafters.
- Conduct quality assurance and implement quality control on projects across the service line.
- Lead and supervise multiple electrically focused technical projects.
- Collaborate with professionals, other engineers, planners, and infrastructure authorities on federal, state, regional and local funded projects, proposals and business development opportunities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Experience leading electrical and controls design and engineering teams.
- Design‑Build project execution experience.
- Experience with mining, oil and gas, water treatment, and other EPCM projects.
- Requisite knowledge of industry standards (NEC, IEEE, etc.).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong planning, organization and execution skills.
- High‑level self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking and prioritization.
- Independent work with minimal oversight and ability to guide junior team members.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills for applying technical knowledge.
- Track record of coordinating subcontractors and ensuring safe, efficient task completion.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, substance abuse and harassment policies.
- Ability to work project schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
