Description:
The Petroleum Engineer is a senior level position suitable for a person with experience in reservoir engineering and property evaluation.
The position is a member of the Opportune's petroleum engineering firm, Ralph
E. Davis LLC (RED) and reports to the president of RED. In addition to serving RED's third-party clients, the job also involves supporting other service lines within Opportune. Those projects cover a wide range of consulting activity including investment banking, restructuring, valuation, strategic advisory, tax and litigation support.
The most important attributes of the successful candidate will be responsiveness, nimbleness, analytical thinking, ability to effectively manage multiple projects, and high attention to detail and accuracy. RED operates in a fast-paced environment that requires dedication to developing new skills and finding new ways to solve problems. Working groups are fluid and the ability to be a trusted and effective team player on multiple teams simultaneously is very important.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Fundamental knowledge of cash flow, economics and rate of return
- Preparing production forecasts of producing, non-producing and undeveloped reservoirs using a variety of petroleum engineering techniques
- Reviewing historical lease operating data to estimating future economic parameters
- Creating type curves
- Creating and managing petroleum economics databases in Aries and PHDWin, at a minimum
- Lead or assist with the coordination of executing mandates and external project meetings, as required
- Work with the team and other groups within the company
- Assisting in the preparation of client presentations and reports
- Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion in decision-making
- Maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excels in organization, time management, prioritization, and planning, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines for both self and team
- Collaborates effectively fostering strong communication and teamwork
- Assisting in the preparation of client presentations and reports
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering
- 15 - 20 years of Oil & Gas upstream experience including Reservoir Evaluations
- Proven background in economic evaluations, oil & gas reserve estimations and decline curve analysis
- Sound understanding of classical reservoir engineering principles, forecasting, reserves estimation and classification, fluid and rock characterization
- Functional understanding of geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and reservoir characterization issues and how they relate to reservoir performance
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication, presentation, writing and organization skills
- Self-motivated and capable of proactively driving continuous improvement
- Professional Engineering license in the State of Texas is not a must, but will give you an edge.
Preferred
Skills:
- Understanding of economics, with a preference for application in oil and gas developments
- Possess general working knowledge of drilling, completions, production operations and understanding of upstream oil and gas terminology
- Experience with Spotfire, Enverus, Enertel
- Active membership in SPEE (Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers)
