Audubon is currently seeking a Pipe Stress Engineer to join our team in our Houston, TX Office. The Pipe Stress Engineer responsible for the analysis, design verification, and optimization of piping systems to ensure structural integrity, code compliance, and safe operation under all operating, thermal, and environmental conditions. The role involves close coordination with piping design, structural, mechanical, civil, and vendor teams.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform pipe stress analysis using software such as CAESAR II or equivalent.
  • Evaluate piping systems for:
    • Thermal expansion and contraction
    • Sustained, operating, and occasional loads
    • Wind, seismic, wave, and transportation loads
    • Pressure and weight effects
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards:
    • ASME B31.3, B31.1, B31.4, B31.8
    • ASCE 7 (wind & seismic)
    • Project-specific client standards
  • Develop and review:
    • Stress analysis models
    • Stress isometrics
    • Load calculations
    • Pipe support requirements
  • Coordinate with:
    • Piping design for routing and flexibility improvements
    • Structural and civil teams for pipe rack and foundation loads
    • Mechanical and equipment vendors to validate allowable nozzle loads
  • Review and resolve pipe stress comments during:
    • Model reviews
    • 30/60/90% design reviews
    • HAZOP and constructability reviews
  • Request and validate vendor allowable loads and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and issue:
  • Pipe stress calculation reports
  • Load tables (equipment nozzles, pipe racks, sleepers)
  • Support design sketches and restraint requirements
  • Review vendor and third-party stress calculations when required.
  • Support design changes and revisions during IFC development.
  • Provide technical support during:
    • Fabrication
    • Construction
    • Field modifications and reroutes
  • Review and resolve change requests and RFIs.
  • Assist with stress re-analysis for site changes or as-built conditions.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education required:

    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-15+ years of experience
  • EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, or midstream experience preferred
  • CAESAR II (required)
  • Knowledge of pipe supports, spring hangers, and restraints
  • Familiarity with:
    • Nozzle load evaluation
    • Expansion loops and flexibility analysis
    • Cold spring and stress optimization techniques
  • Experience coordinating global execution teams (India, Bogotá, etc.)
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills
