This role supports a multidisciplinary Project Management Team providing engineering and construction oversight during the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and EPC phases of a power plant expansion and high-voltage transmission interconnection project. The Electrical Power Engineer brings broad technical expertise in power-system project development and operations, with an owner/operator perspective on design assurance, implementation, commissioning, and startup. The successful candidate will have experience with power generation facilities, electrical distribution systems, utility interconnections, and EPC contractor oversight.

Familiarity with LNG, refining, or petrochemical operations is a plus but is not required.

Job Duties Design Review and Technical Assurance
  • Review and evaluate proposed electrical design concepts, including gas and steam turbine generators and power plant transmission and distribution configurations.
  • Review electrical design documentation, including Basis of Design, design criteria, design philosophies, and applicable project specifications.
  • Examine EPC contractor designs and coordinate electrical requirements with other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide expert review of power-system studies, electrical load lists, single-line diagrams, equipment data sheets, plan drawings, supplier documentation, and related deliverables.
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise for the design, specification, and functionality of electrical systems, equipment, and associated processes.
  • Analyze designs for improvement and develop practical or novel solutions to electrical design and operational issues.
  • Review proposed technical changes in support of the change-order approval process and verify final design documents are ready for project turnover.
Codes, Standards, and Risk Management
  • Monitor EPC contractors and subcontractors for adherence to applicable North American codes, standards, regulations, and guides, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, API, and UL requirements.
  • Participate in E-HAZOP and HAZOP reviews, as required, and provide technical support for risk assessments, design reviews, and constructability reviews.
  • Maintain strong attention to electrical safety, including arc-flash hazards and safe work practices in hazardous environments.
  • Respond to technical queries, requests for information, and other formal engineering inquiries.
Installation, Commissioning, and Operations Support
  • Assess and verify the integrity of electrical systems during installation, commissioning, and startup through inspections and construction support, with the goal of maximizing reliability and availability.
  • Evaluate vendor-package installations for compliance and monitor equipment performance during commissioning and startup.
  • Support training for Operations and Maintenance personnel on new or novel technologies implemented by the project.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Maintenance teams, the EPC contractor, original equipment manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Manage third-party contractors assigned to design-assurance activities.
  • Travel to project or operating sites as business requirements dictate.
Job Requirements:

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing is preferred.
  • Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing.
Experience and Technical Knowledge
  • Minimum 12 years of overall electrical engineering experience, preferably including EPC oversight.
  • At least 10 years of experience in electrical engineering project design or operations.
  • Recent power-generation design experience is required; a combination of power-generation and operating experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience specifying and protecting electric motors, variable-frequency drives, indoor and outdoor substations, power transformers, cable systems, uninterruptible power supplies, and related equipment.
  • Experience with utility interconnection design, equipment specifications, electric power distribution, protection and coordination studies, area classification, and plant-wide power management and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, API, IEEE, and other applicable standards and industry practices.
