Senior Financial Marketing Analyst (Houston, Midland or Austin)

The University of Texas System Administration seeks a Senior Financial Marketing Analyst to audit oil and gas production and royalty data on University Lands, safeguarding the financial interests of the Permanent University Fund (PUF).

Responsibilities
  • Lead royalty audits with limited supervision, planning and executing audit objectives, scope, and work programs.
  • Identify operator contacts, prepare meeting agendas, and conduct operator interviews to gather information.
  • Analyze production and royalty reporting for discrepancies and anomalies, reviewing run statements, percent of proceeds, purchaser contracts, and production reports to ensure compliance with lease agreements and Texas Education Code.
  • Work with University Lands’ Oil & Gas Analysts and operators to correct reporting issues, reconciling ledger balances to verify royalty receipt.
  • Perform fieldwork activities and conduct operator interviews independently or under limited supervision.
  • Document work performed, prepare work papers, and communicate findings and recommendations to the audit team and clients.
  • Prepare draft audit reports with applicable observations and recommendations.
  • Set deadlines for assigned tasks, monitor time to meet project deadlines, and provide clear direction to team members.
  • Research and evaluate revenue enhancement opportunities and collaborate with operators to ensure compliance with University Lands’ rules and regulations.
  • Prioritize tasks with a focus on providing customer service while meeting timely completion requirements for special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient with standard concepts, procedures, protocols, and methodologies within the oil and gas audit field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Self‑motivated with exceptional time and project management skills.
  • Ability to apply analytical and interpretive skills to problem solving.
  • Strong report‑writing experience, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Power BI.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, business administration, marketing, engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of related experience in the energy industry.
  • Each additional year of experience or education over the required minimum may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Oil and gas audit experience.
Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), mandatory participation.
