Interim Controller – Nonprofit Organization

Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide financial leadership and ensure the integrity of accounting operations during a transitional period. This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional with deep nonprofit expertise, particularly in grants and fund management.

• Oversee month‑end and quarter‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements and reconciliations
• Lead, mentor, and support a small accounting team, strengthening daily operations and overall performance
• Manage government grant accounting, including compliance, tracking, and required reporting
• Collaborate with department heads to review restricted and unrestricted funds, assess resources, and align financial decisions with organizational goals
• Prepare financial analyses and narratives that explain results, highlight budget performance, and communicate mission impact
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting systems to increase efficiency and accuracy

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA is a plus
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong nonprofit and/or grant management background preferred
• Solid understanding of fund accounting, financial reporting, and month‑end close processes
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to enhance workflows and communicate effectively with both financial and non‑financial stakeholders
