This position is a member of our Houston Regional Office.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING- Prioritizes, plans, and conducts investigations; prepares reports to document field activities and observed conditions. Assists with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.
- Conducts enforcement and follow‑up activities in accordance with Enforcement Initiation Criteria.
- Provides technical assistance and information to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations. Performs other technical assistance activities, including coordinating and/or participating in the collection of records, technical data, research or analysis as a result of public information requests. Participates on committees and attends meetings, seminars, or workshops as required.
- Experience interpreting environmental regulations and/or reviewing or evaluating environmental permits.
- Experience conducting inspections and/or investigations.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field.
OR
Four years of full‑time experience in the field of environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEESThis position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist II‑IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Environmental Investigator II‑IV series.
Work ScheduleStandard business hours are M‑F, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Houston Region Office.
