The Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences at the University of Houston's Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invites applications for a faculty position specializing in dissemination and implementation research. This position also includes a role as a faculty member within the Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute. The selected faculty member will be expected to conduct collaborative research within the Institute, Department, College, and University, teach medical students and, where appropriate, mentor junior faculty and students. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, or DrPH) in a health‑related field and have a strong track record—or significant potential—for securing extramural funding. They should possess expertise in dissemination and implementation frameworks and at least one of the following areas: practice redesign, shared decision‑making, digital health, community engagement, pragmatic research methods, practice‑based research, primary care delivery, and/or rapid evidence‑to‑care‑change cycles.
This faculty member will play a pivotal role in planning, funding, promoting, and executing programs that align with the mission of the Department and Institute. The Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute is dedicated to enhancing healthcare value through research, education, and community engagement. Investigators benefit from extensive interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities spanning psychology, engineering, health professions, law, and business. They have access to varied patient populations and enjoy the benefits of working in the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical complex.
Additionally, this role provides opportunities for partnership with the Consortium for Translational and Precision Health, an initiative that is led by Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston and supported by a newly awarded Clinical and Translational Science Award Program grant.
We seek candidates with an active publication record, a history of extramural funding commensurate with their career stage, and a collaborative orientation towards team science. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching (1-page) and research interests, and names and contact information of three references.
Primary Responsibilities (the initial, approximate effort allocation is in parenthesis):- Research (85% (65% if clinical)):
- Supervising and executing relevant aspects of research projects, including question formulation, study design, study implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of results
- Securing extramural funding as a principal investigator
- Supporting efforts to build partnerships
- Participating in research that contributes to the mission of the Humana Institute
- Education (10%):
- Developing and teaching relevant sessions within the medical school curriculum, including quality improvement, population health, dissemination and implementation, and research design
- Participating in faculty, staff, and student mentoring
- Clinical (20%, if applicable):
- Evaluating and treating patients
- Maintaining an electronic medical record of encounters, diagnostic studies, and referrals
- Participating in interdisciplinary team‑based care
- Service (5%):
- Participating in service activities that are important to the research, curriculum, accreditation, students, and faculty of the College
Full‑Time: 1 FTE
Minimum Qualifications:- Doctoral degree in a relevant field including public health, implementation science, health services research, or behavioral and social sciences
- Expertise in dissemination and implementation research
- Evidence of scholarly productivity
