Shift: Wed - Fri 7p - 7a with every other Saturday 11p-7a.
Job DescriptionBehavioral Health Services (BHS) is made up of a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, mental health nurse practitioners, physician assistants, mental health professionals, medical assistants, and administrative staff. The team works to provide a gold standard of care to connect patients to the most appropriate level of behavioral health care, with a goal to increase access to treatment, improve outcomes, reduce ER visits, and reduce incarcerations.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Masters Degree in Social Work and licensure as a clinician or undergoing clinical supervision; or Master’s degree in counseling or related field.
Licenses/Certification: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Marriage Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-A), or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT).
Experience / Knowledge /
Skills:
- Five (5) years psychiatric/healthcare field experience preferred; internships considered.
- Knowledge of best practices in working with various psychiatric populations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proven capability in conducting evaluations to determine psychosocial and psychiatric needs of adults, children and families.
- Ability to complete thorough risk assessments for suicide and homicide.
- Effective use of DSM in diagnosing mental illness.
- Ability to recommend appropriate psychiatric levels of care.
- Applies crisis intervention techniques and evidence-based counseling techniques with individuals and families.
- Developed skill set in family systems and engaging families in treatment.
- Maintains clinician annual core competencies (HIPAA/Privacy, Cultural Competence, Information Security Awareness, Domestic Violence, Levels of Care, Medications, Substance Use, DSM, Suicide/Homicide Assessments, Psychiatric Emergencies).
- Knowledge of interviewing, assessment, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to apply theory to practice: identify community resources, collaborate with patients, families, multi-disciplinary team, and community agencies; seek supervision/consultation as appropriate.
- Interpersonal communication and negotiation skills; ability to develop collaborative relationships with physicians, families, patients, team and community agencies.
- Open to working with diverse populations and adaptable to change; ability to connect patients and families with necessary services inside and outside the MHHS network; knowledge of local community resources for patients with limited payment resources; patience and tact in interactions.
- Based on a Comprehensive Behavioral Health Assessment, assess patient and psychosocial risk factors, functioning history, symptom severity, support systems, coping ability, and illness impact.
- Evaluate for self-injurious or harmful behaviors and recommend precautions according to patient acuity.
- Consult with BHS medical directors (psychiatrists) and attending physicians for case review and medication recommendations.
- Provide psychiatric diagnoses and document clinical criteria and symptoms.
- Provide counseling and/or treatment to individuals, couples, families, or groups; establish and maintain therapeutic relationships to diagnose and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders and addictions.
- Educate adults, children and families experiencing emotional disturbances, mental illness, or substance abuse problems.
- Intervene with patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial consequences of illness; mobilize family/community resources to meet needs.
- Provide crisis counseling and intervention related to treatment decisions.
- Advocate for patient and family empowerment and independence in health care decisions and service access.
- Ensure safe care adhering to policies and standards within budgetary specifications, including time and supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
- Promote professional growth by meeting mandatory/continuing education requirements; support department goals; serve as preceptor/mentor.
- Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of the community by delivering compassionate, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
