Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Faculty Group Practice Senior Medical Assistant Brooklyn Heights
.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is responsible for assisting physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care. This position primarily supports the practice with Medical Assistant duties but at a senior level. This role is responsible for validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms for examination, measuring and recording vital signs, drawing blood, and collecting other lab samples. The Senior Medical Assistant is also responsible for administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and performing data entry.

  • Serves as primary trainer for new hires
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms
  • Measures and records patient vital signs
  • Obtains and processes blood samples as per NYULH policy
  • Supports quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR
  • Promotes a positive patient experience
  • Communicates effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalate issues
  • Answers phone calls
  • Reviews and respond to in-basket messages
  • Follows up on Rx refill requests
  • Performs other duties as needed
Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical and clinical responsibilities as assigned by management
  • Monitor dashboards to identify delays in patient flow
  • Assist patients and communicate with physicians to obtain prescription renewals as needed
  • Assist with training and in-servicing Medical Assistant staff
  • Assist in planning, coordination and scheduling activities of the medical assistants
  • Serve as liaison between practice operations, management and coordinating patient throughout
  • Actively listen to patient concerns and escalate to appropriate management as they arise
Clinical & Operational Tasks
  • Complete necessary intake including vital signs and tests within defined scope of practice
  • Validate patient medical records when accessing/updating information (name and date of birth)
  • Maintain patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Ensure exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards
  • Explain MyChart functionality to patients during intake
  • Ensure translation services/equipment are in place prior to visits
  • Assist with blood/specimen collection and proper handling per policy
  • Perform Point of Care testing (EKG, glucose, pregnancy test, urinalysis) per policy and with required competency
  • Prepare patient encounter with up-to-date information (bloodwork, radiology, medications, history)
  • Review and import information from Prepare for your Visit and outside information
  • Collaborate with clinical team to maintain logbooks for equipment and safety measures
  • Support best practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with vital signs and histories; scan/upload diagnostic reports as needed
Patient Experience & Access
  • Drive consistency in every patient and colleague encounter using the CARES service strategy
  • Greet patients warmly, state name and role, and communicate each step of care appropriately
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a positive experience and timely resolutions via in person, phone, or electronic messaging
  • Anticipate patient needs and participate in service recovery using the LEARN model
  • Share ideas to improve patient experience and access with leadership
  • Partner with the Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to promote a positive patient experience
  • Ensure staff are versed in Access Agreement gold standard principles
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR hold a current medical assistant Certification from a nationally recognized accredited institution (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA). Minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience in a faculty group practice or hospital setting.
