Job Summary and Responsibilities
Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks associated with the operation of MRI and other imaging modalities in an outpatient setting to assist the radiologist in the detection of anatomical abnormalities. The technologist is primarily responsible for daily operations of the outpatient MRI section, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self‑motivated to increase understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
- Utilizes innovative customer service techniques to provide a positive patient care experience for the patient and their family.
- Acts professionally in all dealings with internal and external customers to promote a working environment that focuses on the patient experience and not operational rivalries or roadblocks to care.
- Performs all tasks associated with MRI/CT Tech job description.
- Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
- Administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
- Evaluate the imaging study for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately.
- Actively participate in patient care exams, performing routine, urgent and emergent patient requests.
- Review physician orders to verify the types of diagnostic exam requested and that the indication for the procedure is consistent.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families about the procedure to be performed in order to obtain information and offer reassurance.
- Establish and maintain lines of communication with all other staff members and radiologists to insure an effective and harmonious working environment.
- Complete image processing, PACs QA, including documentation of logs, demographic and diagnostic information required for departmental, hospital and patient record documentation.
- Complete all image post‑processing.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree (preferred)
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – acceptable certifications: ARRT (R) (CT) (MR) (N) (M). For ARRT (CT), must obtain within 9 months of hire/transfer.
- Certified by State of Texas – MRT; must be maintained current.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
