Job Summary
The primary function of the Histology Technician is to conduct grossing and embedding of tissue specimens, ensuring precise preparation for histology analysis.
This is a part-time position (19 hours per week) with no benefits.
Schedule: Thursday and Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

- Prepares histology material for pathologist review – Prepares histology material using established departmental procedures and demonstrating high quality technical skills. Produces histology materials at or above productivity standards. Assists also in training new laboratory personnel.
- Specimen preparation / Laboratory Informatics / Safety – Assists with all aspects of specimen processing including identifying, sorting and labeling of blocks and slides. Uses laboratory informatics system to document workflow, track and identify specimens. Performs all laboratory duties following established safety guidelines.
- Quality Control, New Equipment / Solution Preparation – Reviews patient material as part of section quality assurance and participates in laboratory quality control processes. Evaluates new equipment, procedures and techniques and participates in implementation. Prepares reagents and solutions. Maintains and cleans laboratory equipment. Other duties as required or assigned.

- Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Preferred:
Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program – or – Associate's degree.
Required:
Three years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, one year of histopathology experience within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program, no experience is required.

Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HTL) registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP).
