Biomed Equip Tech II - F/T - Biomedical Engineering (Ben Taub Hospital)

Job Summary

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of biomedical equipment. This role requires an intermediate level of technical expertise to ensure proper operation and safety of medical devices. The BMET II collaborates with clinical staff, IT teams, and vendors to support medical equipment and patient care initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics or related field AND Three (3) years experience
  • HS/GED AND Five (5) years in biomedical equipment maintenance and repair or equivalent military training
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification (preferred)
Communication Skills
  • Above Average Verbal Communication (Heavy Public Contact):
    Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with clinical staff, engineers, and vendors
  • Writing/Correspondence
  • Writing/Reports:
    Experience in writing service reports and documenting maintenance activities.
Work Schedule
  • Flexible
  • Weekends
  • On Call
Other Requirements
  • Experience with medical device networking and integration with hospital IT systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as FDA, NFPA, CMS, and AAMI.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting and repair of biomedical devices.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and signal generators.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance requirements for medical equipment.
  • Familiarity with equipment inventory and asset management systems.
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuits, mechanical systems, and patient monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of basic networking principles related to medical devices.
  • Critical thinking skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to patient safety and adherence to regulatory requirements.

  • Oximeter Spo2, Pacemaker - External Invasive, Physiologic Monitoring System
  • Tourniquets, Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitors, Ambulatory ECG Monitors, recorders
  • Electroencephalograph, Phototherapy Unit, Scales for clinic applications, Sphygmomanometers electronic
  • Microscope, Surgical OR tables, Laboratory equipment
