MedAR is a dedicated medical billing company specializing in pathology, radiology and anesthesia services. We partner with healthcare providers to streamline their revenue cycle and ensure accurate reimbursement. We are currently seeking a meticulous and experienced Pathology Medical Coder to join our expert team.

Job Summary

The Pathology Medical Coder will be responsible for accurately applying billing codes to pathology reports for our client base. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance and maximizing revenue for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding guidelines, with a specific focus on pathology services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review provider documentation and accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes to pathology and laboratory services, including surgical pathology, cytology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Apply correct modifiers and ensure NCCI edits, MUE, and payer policy compliance.
  • Analyze complex medical documentation from various client-provided sources to ensure coding accuracy and completeness.
  • Audit accounts for proper coding; identify account problems along with trends and patterns.
  • Stay up to date with the latest coding guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory changes affecting pathology coding.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations and adhere to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Assist in resolving coding-related claim denials and rejections in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the billing and accounts receivable teams to address coding questions and ensure smooth claims submission.
  • Meet or exceed accuracy and productivity targets.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and client information.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential from AAPC or AHIMA.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding with one year specifically related to pathology.
    • Proven expertise in coding surgical pathology, cytopathology, and molecular pathology.
    • ICD-10 Proficient
    • Proficient in using coding tools and software.
  • Preferred:
    • Associate's degree or higher
    • Experience with a variety of EHR and billing systems.
    • Strong knowledge of compliance regulations and payer-specific coding requirements.
