We are seeking Medical Physicist Assistants (MPAs) who are eager to learn, grow, and play a vital role in supporting diagnostic imaging across MD Anderson's Texas Medical Center campus, Houston area locations, and ancillary imaging centers.
Role and LocationThe Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) supports the quality assurance (QA) and performance testing of medical imaging equipment. Shift/hours/location:
Based on business needs. Will be able to work hybrid after 6 months of employment. This job is located in the Texas Medical Center.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in medical physics, diagnostic imaging, radiation science, or related fields. Ability to learn complex imaging systems and testing procedures. Technical aptitude and attention to detail. Comfort working in clinical environments and traveling to Houston area sites. Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate across teams.
Responsibilities- Train directly under Senior MPAs and Qualified Medical Physicists (QMPs)
- Perform periodic and annual equipment quality control
- Support clinical technologists with equipment operation and radiation safety practices
- Assist in data collection, equipment tracking, maintenance, and regulatory compliance
- Contribute to SOP development, QC workflows, and testing documentation
- Quality Control & Testing:
Perform and assist with QC testing for multiple imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, General Radiography & Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, PET & PET/CT, Interventional Radiology, Rad Station diagnostic review monitors - Support testing:
Daily/weekly QA, Annual testing, Acceptance testing, ACR accreditation testing, Post service and preventive maintenance checks - Maintain QC records and generate monthly reports for regulatory reviews (JCAHO, Texas Department of State Health Services, Bureau of Radiation Control, etc.)
- Travel & Offsite Support:
Provide the same quality of physics support to all Houston Area Locations, research sites, and imaging centers; perform remote support via SOP delivery, remote desktop, video conferencing, and other tools; maintain equipment calibration, periodic testing cycles, and regulatory compliance standards across all sites
- Work closely with Senior MPAs, QMPs, and Clinical Operations leadership
- Train technologists on equipment operation, radiation safety, and SOPs
- Participate in competency assessments and cross training across modalities
- Support Radiological Engineering with scheduling, troubleshooting, and post service evaluations
