About the Role:

We're looking for a Tech Lead or Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in FHIR, EHR interoperability, and event-driven architecture to build next-gen integrations with Epic and iKnowMed (IKM). You’ll be responsible for developing clinical data exchange features, embedding apps in real-world provider workflows, and ensuring seamless bidirectional data flow between systems.

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex integration problems in healthcare and scaling infrastructure that supports direct patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop SMART on FHIR apps embedded in Epic and IKM to support provider and patient workflows
• Extract clinical data via FHIR APIs, normalize it, persist it to a backend store (e.g., Aid Box), and emit real-time events via Kafka
• Build secure write-back flows for patient updates, documentation, and care coordination directly into the EHR
• Lead registration, approval, and certification processes with Epic App Orchard and other EHR vendor platforms
• Partner with product and QA teams to ensure usability, performance, and compliance with health IT standards
• Translate clinical requirements into scalable backend logic and reusable integration components
• Drive technical conversations with both internal teams and external vendor engineers to keep delivery on track

What We’re Looking For:

• Hands-on experience with SMART on FHIR and strong understanding of FHIR R4+ resource modeling
• Deep familiarity with Epic APIs, App Orchard, Interconnect, and integration best practices
• Experience building apps for Epic Hyperspace/Hyperdrive and iKnow Med
• Expertise in OAuth2, OpenID, and secure authentication workflows for EHR integrations
• Solid experience developing in Node.js, Python, or Java, with familiarity in Kafka or event-streaming tools
• Clear understanding of healthcare data privacy, HIPAA, and interoperability standards

Bonus Points:

• Experience with multiple EHR systems or FHIR-first platforms like Aid Box
• Familiarity with clinical terminology standards (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED)
• Contributions to open source health IT or FHIR projects
