SummaryThe Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth and secure operation of computer systems across physical and virtual environments. This role maintains core enterprise systems, ensures data accuracy, and improves workflows to keep the organization running smoothly. Responsibilities include IT best practices compliance, regulatory standards adherence, collaboration with other teams, and participation in on-call rotation for after-hours support.
Primary Duties- Install, configure, and maintain Windows operating systems, virtual machines, and related software
- Manage and maintain VMware vCenter and Horizon View environments, including VM deployment, configuration, and monitoring
- Design, implement, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and failover clustering
- Manage and maintain MS SQL Server databases, including design, performance tuning, and backup/recovery strategies
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Windows operating systems, virtualization technologies, and network connectivity
- Collaborate with other IT team members to ensure efficient operation of all IT systems and services
- Develop and maintain technical documentation of IT systems and processes
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in Windows system administration and virtualization technologies
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and maintenance as needed
- Follow proper change control procedures and adhere to industry compliance standards
The System Administrator reports to the IT Manager and collaborates with other IT team members.
CompensationThe initial annual salary will range from $107,300 to $123,400.
Education and Experience- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field - Years of
Experience:
Five years of experience in Windows System Administration; two years of experience with VMware vCenter and Horizon View - Licenses/Certifications:
ITIL certification or other relevant industry certifications desired
- Software/Equipment Knowledge:
At least 2 years of experience with VMware vCenter and Horizon View; at least 5 years of experience with Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, failover clustering) and MS SQL Server; strong understanding of Windows OS, virtualization, and network protocols; scripting and automation tools (Power Shell) - Other Considerations:
Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently or in a team; excellent written and verbal communication; strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Travel to remote data centers or business locations in Houston and the Dallas area is required. Office and data center environment with some travel. Typical schedule is Monday–Friday during normal business hours; on-call availability for emergencies.
