Overview
The Research and Administrative Facilities (RAF) department manages the operations and maintenance of research and administrative buildings, including both the Bastrop and Smithville campuses. The RAF team also includes parking and transportation, audio visual and event operations, as well as exterior site operations, supporting all Houston campuses and properties. The department emphasizes honesty, openness, empowerment, and professionalism, with a 1-Team, 1-Mission, 1-Division approach and a focus on making cancer history.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on AV professional with strong technical troubleshooting skills and extensive experience supporting live events, conferencing platforms, and audio-visual systems in complex, highly regulated environments such as healthcare or higher education. The role requires excellent customer service, teamwork, adaptability, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and strict attention to detail, confidentiality, and safety. The position involves onsite, physically demanding event support, including equipment setup, frequent walking, shift work, and rapid response to evolving operational needs.
This department offers a professional, team-oriented environment with an emphasis on safety, service excellence, and continuous learning and growth. The standard schedule provides a consistent 40-hour workweek for better work-life balance compared to the extended or irregular hours often associated with the AV industry.
The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This position is part of the ride-out team, as-needed basis.
The salary range is $53,000 - $66,000 - $79,000.

Summary
The Senior Event Technician is a position within the Event Services department, part of Media Services Academic Technology, in the Division of Academic Affairs. This role ensures high standards of service to clients while managing all audio, visual, web interfaces, computer lab and video operations on MD Anderson's extended campus. The Senior Event Technician performs higher level duties in room setup, AV setup, technical operations, in-room support, quality control, and equipment inventory on the extended campus.
Competencies
Asset Management - Coordinate with Supervisor and Event Technicians to track event inventory, perform basic repairs on AV equipment, schedule vendor services, and perform long-term care and preventative maintenance.
Communication - Maintain exceptional communication with clients and internal staff. Advise faculty and staff on AV usage. Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
Daily Operations - Set up institutional events using Event Management System reports and diagrams; coordinate room equipment and in-room AV needs. Perform teardown and return of equipment, assist with routine cleaning, and coordinate with Facilities on environment and maintenance. Maintain ongoing tasks as needed.
Event/Video Conference Duties - Install, operate, and monitor equipment to record, edit, and transmit programs; support event-related audio, video, and web conferences; diagnose and resolve system issues; ensure adherence to Life Safety and ADA guidelines; stay current with content and platforms (e.g., Camtasia, Lync, Webex, Skype); educate users on platform use; manage follow-up tickets; produce event bulletins and door signs.

Education- Required:
Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management or related field. - Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management or related field.
- Required:
Three years' experience in conference center support, hospitality, media services or related field, including AV setup, troubleshooting, and engineering. - May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis.
