Job Description Seneca Inland Marine Senior Underwriter - Remote in Texas (Dallas or Houston area preferred)

Summary:

Responsible for review and analysis of underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of business within Seneca division under minimal supervision. Manages agency relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities. Actively contributes as a technical expert in both underwriting activities and department-specific industry knowledge. May mentor less experienced underwriters to build organizational value. Collaborates with colleagues to achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities
  • Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the department.
  • Makes independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation.
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
  • Develops awareness of market trends and identifies emerging threats to the department.
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of department products and services, both admitted and non-admitted business.
  • Can clearly articulate the department’s value proposition.
  • Participates in training and initiatives. May participate in projects.
  • Travel required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Six plus years of property & casualty underwriting experience desired with a focus on commercial Inland Marine business preferred. Familiarity with Builders' Risk, Motor Cargo, Mid-term Builders' Risk, Contractors Equipment, Auto PD.
  • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a significant renewal book.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Possesses underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization.
  • Established relationships with the wholesale community in the Southeast highly preferred; experience dealing with wholesale brokers a must.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU preferred.
  • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls.
