Description

Primary Goal: GLOBO Campus Liaisons work solely in the educational environment as representatives of GLOBO to our hearing clients and Deaf consumers. As members of the student’s educational team, Campus Liaisons navigate a bilingual, bicultural environment and bridge communication gaps between hearing and Deaf worlds. Campus Liaisons contribute to compliance of the ADA and 504 Act and are the front-line representatives of GLOBO responsible for ensuring communication access happens across a given client location.

Beyond the scope of interpreting, Client Liaisons provide commentary on student’s progress towards their IEP/ARD communication goals, utilize culturally and linguistically appropriate curriculum expansion techniques and contribute to overall academic success of Deaf students.

Responsibilities
  • Act as primary liaison between GLOBO and Customer
  • Collect student schedules, offer guidance on scheduling efficiency, cover assignments where needed
  • Provide on-site knowledge of student needs, campus policies and expectations, staffing changes, campus holidays and adjusted bell schedules, etc
  • Represent GLOBO at on-site faculty meetings
  • Offer reports and documentation on student communication for ARD meetings and general educational goal meetings
  • Represent and live out GLOBO’s core values and communicate Client interests internally to GLOBO
  • Understand student communication goals and work to help them achieve academic success
  • When required observe, document and comment on student communication progress
  • Provide linguistically and culturally appropriate learning tools for students
  • Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information as well as other professionally established ethical tenants.
  • Willingness to meet the communication needs of Deaf consumers including demonstrating proficiency in ASL, Transliteration, SEE, and other interpreting modes as appropriate.
  • Commit to professional development and maintain good standing with the applicable certification board.
  • Interpret messages simultaneously and/or consecutively into American Sign Language and English, respectively; orally and by using signs, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.
  • Compile terminology and information to be used in interpretations, including technical terms such as those for legal or medical material.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
  • Refer to reference materials, such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks, as needed to ensure interpretation accuracy.
  • Educate students, parents, staff, and teachers about the roles and functions of educational interpreters.

Required

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Valid certification from BEI and/or RID.
  • Must maintain valid certification in good standing with BEI or RID.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate native fluency in American Sign Language and English.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret from English into ASL.
  • Ability to understand receptively ASL, and interpret into spoken English.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint and superior knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with Google Docs and Apple/Mac Operating System preferred

Campus Liaisons who will attend assigned appointments via their own means by driving their personal vehicle must show proof of an active, valid driver's license and car insurance. MVR Reports may be conducted to ensure good standing of driving ability. Specific car insurance limits may be required. Campus Liaisons who will attend assigned appointments via means of other transportation must specify their means of traveling to assigned appointments.
