- Proof of high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Associate's degree or 60 or more credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Associate's degree related to interpreting or in the field of Deafness preferred.
- Certificate in Interpreting issued by either the Board of Evaluation of Interpreters or the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Out-of-state certification will be considered with the stipulation that Texas or RID certification is acquired within one year.
- Experience working with children.

Salary/Paygrade$37,406* – IP8 Salary Range as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year
- Additional stipend available based on level of certification:
Level I or Basic - $7,375;
Level II, CI/CT, SC, IC/TC, NIC - $8,375;
Level III or Advanced (BEI or NIC) - $9,375
- Interpret/transliterate according to the specifications of the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Monitor and report concerns about the student's accommodations/modifications to the deaf education case manager or cooperating teacher, as approved by the IEP.
- Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality in all ethical areas.
- Interact professionally with administrators, teachers, staff, students, visitors, or individuals unfamiliar with the educational setting.
- Maintain and demonstrate competency in course material and interpreting/transliterating skills.
- Provide in-class support as specified in the IEP, including small group instruction, individual tutoring, signed/oral administration, or as requested.
- Assist in general supervision of students who are Deaf/hard of hearing (playground, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, escorting students during transitions, toileting).
- Show flexibility when roles shift.
- Participate in ongoing professional development as required by BEI, providing certification documents upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned by relevant staff.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Repetitive hand motion, emotional control under stress, occasional stooping, bending, moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), exposure to heat and humidity.
