Responsibilities
  • Responds to requests for service, information and other business that comes into the Police Department by telephone, emergency all box or made in person at the public service window.
  • Transmits requests for service and related information to the appropriate Police Officer.
  • Inputs information into a computer database; reviews and corrects data as necessary.
  • Monitors campus fire and burglar alarm systems, acknowledges triggered alarms, and dispatches officers when needed.
  • Operates radio consoles, portable radios, Dictaphone recorder, Telecopier, and other equipment located in the Communication Center.
  • Issues equipment and supplies such as radios, batteries and keys to department personnel and maintains related records.
  • May provide guidance and training to new dispatchers.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. MQ:
    Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year directly‑related job experience. Preference for 2 years.
  • Technical certification or licensing directly related to the job (e.g., Intermediate Telecommunicator Certification through TCLEOSE or TCOLE).
  • Telecommunicator’s license (attach a copy under miscellaneous documents on the application).
  • Must pass Computerized Criminal History Check, Background Investigation and Drug Testing prior to employment.
  • Computer skills including basic grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions such as percentages and ratios.
