Strategic Buyer​/Strategic Sourcing Specialist – Construction

Location: Houston, TX

Salary: $75,000–$90,000, depending on experience

An established commercial construction contractor is seeking a Strategic Buyer or Strategic Sourcing Specialist to join its Houston team.

This is an opportunity for a purchasing professional who enjoys working with data, analyzing costs, building supplier relationships, and finding better ways to manage procurement across multiple projects and business units.

You don't need to have held a Category Manager title or developed a procurement program from the ground up. Experience contributing to an established centralized purchasing or strategic sourcing department is welcome.

The right person will bring strong analytical skills, a commercial approach to purchasing, and the ambition to take on greater responsibility as they grow.

• Analyze purchasing data, supplier pricing, material costs, and spending trends to identify savings opportunities.
• Support strategic sourcing initiatives and procurement improvements across multiple construction projects and departments.
• Work with suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to obtain competitive pricing, negotiate terms, and improve purchasing value.
• Evaluate supplier proposals, prepare bid comparisons, and support contract negotiations.
• Identify opportunities for consolidated purchasing, volume discounts, and supplier agreements.
• Partner with Project Managers, Operations, Service, and Warehouse teams to understand material requirements and purchasing priorities.
• Support procurement processes from requisition through purchase order, delivery, and tracking.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing agreements, and procurement reports.
• Use Excel and procurement systems to develop reports, track purchasing performance, and support business decisions.

• Experience in purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing, preferably within construction, building materials, industrial supply, manufacturing, or distribution.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities are essential.
• Experience analyzing spend, comparing supplier costs, identifying pricing trends, and developing meaningful reports.
• Exposure to supplier negotiations, RFQs, purchasing agreements, and cost‑saving initiatives.
• Experience working within a centralized procurement department is an asset.
• Familiarity with ERP systems or purchasing software.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with operations and project teams.
