Director of Operations – SEAM

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (“SEG”) is seeking a Director of Operations for SEG Advanced Modeling Corporation (“SEAM”), a subsidiary of SEG.

In this role you will act as the staff liaison to the SEAM Board of Directors, key stakeholders, stakeholder companies, and SEG, managing all aspects of daily administration and operations of SEAM, including governance, consortia membership, business development, business processes, budgeting, and financial management. You will also serve as the liaison to SEG Committees as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

Individual Contributor – Supportive Function – Technology.

Assess technology offerings across SEG business lines, identify opportunities to create synergies, and communicate with stakeholders to understand industry trends. Evaluate existing SEAM models, propose impactful future models, and pursue leading‑edge technology development through SEAM modeling.

Essential Functions – SEAM

Governance
– Staff lead and develop partnership with SEAM Board, Executive Committee, and consortia member companies and SEG business development team.
– Guide SEAM Board through compliance with policies and procedures, bylaws, board nominations, and support decision‑making by providing information and advice on all research consortia matters.
– Provide leadership to all governing bodies of SEAM.

Operations
– Assist Board in establishing and achieving annual goals and operational objectives.
– Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders, prepare minutes, and arrange online collaboration space.
– Identify, track, monitor, and communicate project progress and issues.
– Manage contractual arrangements (RFPs, consortia agreements, confidentiality agreements, SEG revenue share agreements, license agreements) in compliance with SEAM and SEG policy and work with technical Project Managers to ensure progress according to the approved project plan.
– Ensure compliance with government and consortia member contract and reporting requirements. Prepare and negotiate consortia membership agreements and prepare grant funding requests to RPSEA or other government‑funded research organizations.

Business Development –
– Liaise with SEAM’s Business Development contractors to initiate, promote, develop, and recruit members for new projects and publicize SEAM activities to the general membership and interested parties.
– Work with volunteers and other SEG departments to maintain high public visibility for all SEAM research programs, including at SEG events (e.g., IMAGE).

Financial –
– Assist Board in developing an annual budget, monitor operational results against budget, and provide forecast updates to SEAM Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board.
– Work closely with SEG’s finance team to develop regular financial statements, operational forecast, and cash forecasts.

Experience Required
  • Operations management experience and oversight of P&L results.
  • Project management preferred but not required.
  • Board and committee liaison experience preferred.
  • Contract preparation and negotiation experience required.
  • Experience with U.S. government contracts and the geoscience/petroleum community would be beneficial.
  • A global outlook is desired.
Education, Certifications and Specialized Training

Bachelor’s degree in geoscience, engineering, business, or a related field or 10 years additional equivalent experience required.

  • Intermediate project management knowledge and skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suite would be beneficial.
