Job Summary

The Run Test Technician is responsible for performing final functional testing, verification, and troubleshooting of industrial gas compressors/processing skids and PLC control panels prior to shipment. This role ensures equipment meets safety, performance, and customer specifications by conducting run tests, analyzing data, and working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties
  • Conduct Functional Run tests on natural gas compressor packages and PLC-based control panels in accordance with company procedures and customer specifications.
  • Verify proper operation of engines, compressors, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Set up test environments, including fuel, electrical, and control connections.
  • Operate and monitor compressors during start‑up, load, and shutdown cycles.
  • Test and validate PLC control logic, safety interlocks, alarms, and shutdown sequences.
  • Record and analyze test data to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on design improvements and test outcomes.
  • Maintain calibration, cleanliness, and readiness of test equipment and facilities.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, environmental regulations, and company quality policies.
  • Ensure all testing procedures are conducted in compliance with company and industry safety standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership in implementing and maintaining the Enerflex 5S program.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding Assembly Build Sequences (ABS), planned hours, and project durations.
  • Complete and properly sign off the GPS Traveler for each module or project.
  • Coordinate with Material Control, Assembly, and Paint departments to prioritize material deliveries required for testing.
  • Enforce safety protocols and programs such as AWARE Cards, Take5, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Risk Assessments (JRA), and safety topic discussions.
  • Maintain detailed test records, issue reports, and document any non-conformances or deviations.
  • Recommend improvements to testing procedures to reduce downtime and enhance product reliability.
  • Act as a technical resource and role model for peers and junior technicians.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Influence cross‑functional collaboration by sharing insights and driving alignment on testing standards and expectations.
  • Encourage proactive problem‑solving and accountability throughout the testing and assembly process.
  • Coordinate with the Manufacturing Supervisor(s) on potential quality issues or delays to projects.
  • Provide feedback to the Supervisor regarding resource capabilities and skill levels.
  • Provide technical feedback to assembly and engineering on design issues or deficiencies.
  • Provide feedback to other Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, and other team members regarding potential process improvements.
  • Assist Supervisors in onboarding and training new employees.
  • Ensure all testing procedures are conducted in full compliance with OSHA, company, and industry safety standards.
  • Provide directions to resolve project issues based on Engineering recommendations.
  • Approve initiation of unit testing as needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality Control to resolve testing issues efficiently.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience troubleshooting PLC control panels and/or operating Caterpillar and Waukesha engines.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering documentation, including P&IDs, General Arrangement drawings, and Electrical schematics.
  • Hands‑on experience with Caterpillar and Waukesha engines.
  • Familiarity with Ariel and Dresser Rand compressors.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate dependability, motivation, and self‑direction.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal daily supervision.
