Production Operator – Transfer Press Operator 3rd Shift at Garlock Family of Companies.

• Operates a series of hydraulic presses in various molding operations consisting of long or short production runs of products made of various rubber compounds.
• Completes opening of press/mold by various manual means and closes partially by manual means and pushing control buttons.
• Sets up assigned press line for maximum efficiency and productivity.
• Raises and lowers presses.
• Properly bars press platens.
• Applies mold wash to cavities.
• Inserts blanks in mold cavities by hand.
• Loads board, pots or plates.
• Covers molds and inserts into press.
• Cures stock for prescribed length of time.
• Removes finished molded pieces from mold cavities, tear trims and deposits into provided containers.
• Uses care in loading molds to ensure that rubber blanks are properly positioned; inspection responsibilities become paramount throughout the molding cycle.
• Troubleshoots press as corrective action when defects occur with product.
• Audits pre‑molded blanks for defects and proper weights during initial start‑up.
• Informs supervisor and/or engineering of defective conditions concerning pre‑molded blanks; assists and suggests ways to correct defects.
• Inspects finished molded pieces, often using gauges.
• Assures, then provides input to supervision or quality as to:
• Proper data codes are in place.
• Durometer checks are O.K.
• Status on stock availability and mold conditions.
• Provides input and production data for histogram/bell chart development.
• Verifies mold cleaning correctness.
• Predetermines pressures, cure times and temperatures on product masters when presses are in operation, while remaining alert to pressure changes, mechanical lubricating systems, temperature readings, bumps and pre‑heat cycle so that input and correct product masters if improprieties exist.
• Performs various finishing operations (manual or machine) on molded rubber items and other miscellaneous items to prepare them for shipment.
• Moves all finished work to proper center and records production.
• Maintains equipment; cleans and lubricates machines; empties dust collectors and refuse containers; cleans screen trays and replenishes media as necessary.
• Performs material handling as necessary to complete work.
• Ensures that non‑conforming products do not enter the manufacturing sequence.
• Maintains all paperwork associated with area inventory, receipt and processing of product and related products.
• Performs specific duties including checking incoming products, transferring from tote pans to shipping containers, selecting and forming cartons, weigh counting products, visual inspection, sealing cartons, and marking shipping and product data on cartons.

• Maintains stock tote pans or containers in neat and orderly fashion.
• Adheres to all plant safety guidelines.
• Keeps work area in 5S condition.
• Performs other jobs as assigned by supervisor.

Job Specifications: Must have knowledge of quality control requirements related to the degreasing and spraying of product.

Posture: Standing, bending

Maximum weight to be lifted: 30 lbs. (anything over 30# requires two people or mechanical device)

Frequency per shift: 25%

Repetitive motion tasks: Arm/shoulder movement when loading/unloading molds and using spray gun; lifting & lowering mold covers; pushing and pulling molds; bending.

Duration of shift: 80%

Working conditions: Heat, cold, dirt, dust, fumes, noise, bonding agents (chemicals) and seasonal variation with temperature
