An established manufacturer of electrical power distribution equipment is seeking a Power Testing Technician to join their team in Northwest Houston. This role focuses on assembling, operating, maintaining, and validating a wide range of electrical systems used in industrial applications. The technician will work hands‑on with equipment such as switch gear, hydraulic power units, variable‑frequency drives, protection relays, transformers, and related wiring assemblies.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair low‑voltage and medium‑voltage power distribution components, including switch gear, breakers, relays, control systems, transformers, generators, metering devices, and protective monitoring systems.
- Perform testing on electrical systems using tools such as hi‑pot testers, meggers, phase meters, power quality meters, and infrared diagnostic devices.
- Execute relay calibration, breaker testing, switch gear evaluations, and system diagnostics with minimal oversight.
- Carry out pre‑test inspections to verify product quality and ensure manufacturing standards are met before formal testing.
- Support full functional testing of equipment prior to shipment and participate in customer or inspector demonstrations when required.
- Repair electrical products and systems independently while documenting findings, test data, and recommendations for product or process improvements.
- Provide guidance or informal mentorship to junior team members when needed.
- Strong understanding of electrical testing practices, troubleshooting methods, and diagnostic procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Strong capability to assess equipment issues and recommend corrective actions or design modifications.
- Awareness of hazards associated with commissioning low‑voltage and medium‑voltage equipment and adherence to safe work practices.
- Self‑motivated, able to work with limited supervision, and capable of managing tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, when interacting with internal teams, vendors, and external stakeholders.
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience performing electrical testing in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Associate degree in an electrical discipline or relevant technical certification strongly preferred.
- Ability to lift, move, and position equipment and test tools as required.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing or test‑bay environment, which may include standing for extended periods, bending, and handling energized equipment under controlled conditions.
