The YI Texas office is seeking a Young Advocates Program (YAP) Fellow for a paid, part‑time fellowship that runs January through December 2026. Current college students and individuals involved in work‑based learning programs are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have some experience within YI’s young advocates’ program or the Youth Advisory Board, as this will be critical to success. The fellowship is based in Dallas or Houston, requires travel across Texas—particularly Dallas, Houston, Austin and East Texas—, and pays $21 per hour for 15 to 19 hours per week.
The fellow must be available for at least four consecutive hours Monday‑Friday, 9 am–5 pm CT, with additional hours flexible around the coordinator’s needs. Responsibilities include assisting the Southern Organizing Coordinator in executing the Young Advocates Program, managing organizing events, outreach, engagement, and policy research efforts. No college degree is necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities- Recruit participation and turnout for training and events
- Manage follow‑up and continued relationships with young adults who attend our events
- Mobilize young adults to take action on advocacy campaigns
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑program evaluations
- Help collect timesheets and other necessary paperwork from the Young Advocates in a timely manner
- Help coordinate Young Advocates’ projects to ensure they meet internal deadlines
- Help coordinate Young Advocates’ travel
- Other duties as assigned
- Demonstrates initiative and ownership of work
- Ability to manage projects by setting deadlines, flagging potential issues, and creatively problem‑solving with the Regional Director
- Works effectively independently and with a team
- Lived experience with YI’s issue areas (e.g., access to healthcare, high tuition cost or student debt)
- Ability to work remotely
- Creative, energetic, and possesses a great attitude
- Professional and mature in all settings
- Experience and comfort working with diverse communities
- Excellent communication skills: can communicate effectively with supervisors, young adults, and external partners
- Experience with YI’s young adult engagement programs
- A passion for Young Invincibles’ mission
- Experience with the Texas Legislature
- Experience facilitating presentations and/or group discussions
- Experience with Canva or other design platforms
- Comfortable working with social media
- Ability to speak, write, and translate materials into Spanish
