Position Summary

Provides advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in a clinic or hospital setting in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a physician.

Key Accountabilities
  • Conducts complex, standardized patient care procedures typically performed by physicians (not constituting medical practice).
  • Coordinates and implements patient plans of care.
  • Conducts independent and physician‑supervised rounding.
  • Performs patient evaluations, assessments, and appropriate treatment, including medication monitoring and ordering.
  • Collects patient histories, screens for comorbidities, and provides preventive health care guidance.
  • Performs physical examinations and problem‑oriented care under physician supervision.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests.
  • Monitors treatment programs and informs attending physicians of pertinent data.
  • Facilitates patient education regarding medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Assists physicians in therapeutic decision‑making.
  • Maintains records and prepares charts for physician review and signature.
  • Prepares and cares for supplies and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs duties within scope of practice prescribed by licensure and certification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification & Skills

• Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse

• Current Texas licensure as an APRN‑NP

• Current specialty certification as required by department (excluding FNP unless paired with a post‑master’s certification in specialty)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or department specialty certification

Minimum Education

• Master’s in Nursing as NP or Master’s in Nursing with completion of a post‑masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Minimum Experience

None; prior experience in the clinical focus area preferred.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
