We are searching for an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who is motivated to work in a fast‑paced setting! The NP or PA works under a delineation of clinical privileges and will work collaboratively with other members of the health care team. Practice under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures.

Job duties are performed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice provider, the NP or PA is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

This APP will be responsible for caring for adults in critical care/acute care inpatient setting. The hours are 6a-5p and 5p-6a. Providers work an average of 3 shifts per week and rotate day and night shifts with the team.

Qualifications:

Physician Assistant:

  • Required Bachelor's Degree
  • PA
    -Cert-Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board
  • Adult cardiology or CVICU experience strongly preferred.

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master's degree in nursing required
  • RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
  • FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required
  • AG ACNP strongly preferred for this position
  • Experience as a nurse practitioner in adult cardiology or CVICU strongly preferred
Responsibilities:

Physician Assistant:

  • Provide medical services that are within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician
  • Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record
  • Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings and documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record
  • Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and documents in medical records
  • Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records
  • Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data as evidenced by types of tests ordered
  • Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care
  • Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload. Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Provides health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians as demonstrated in the written documentation.
  • Follows established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems. Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals and documents the plan in the patient’s medical record.
  • Accurately evaluates patient’s responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care demonstrated by written documentation.
