POSITION SUMMARY
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Research, Technology and Development, the Project Engineer will work across all disciplines and departments of the organization to support and implement process development and continual improvement projects that align with strategic business goals and objectives. The Project Engineer functions as a project manager, using six sigma principles methodology and LEAN tools to identify, lead and complete projects that materially enhance customer satisfaction, employee fulfillment, turnaround time, defect reduction, process improvement, and effectiveness improvements as measured by Company Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
This position requires the ability to adapt, and tailor Lean Six Sigma tools to the unique regulatory, scientific, and quality requirements of a forensic operation. The position is ideal for candidates who have Lean or Six Sigma experience, strong problem‑solving skills, and who are eager to apply continuous improvement principles in a scientific, non‑manufacturing environment.
- Apply lean methodologies and process improvement techniques to foster a culture of continuous improvement efforts across laboratory operations.
- Collaborate with staff, both technical and non‑technical, to understand forensic processes and ensure improvements maintain scientific integrity.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials and best practices.
- Monitor the sustainability of implemented improvements by tracking performance indicators and engaging with teams to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Support change management efforts by assisting with communication plans, training sessions, and post‑implementation reviews.
- Apply Lean and/or Six Sigma tools to forensic workflows and modify these tools when necessary to align with scientific, legal and quality standards.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Education Requirements
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field. Direct relevant work experience in the performance of required duties or required certification may be considered in lieu of the degree.
Minimum Experience Requirements- Minimum Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification (preferably ASQ) is required.
- Minimum three years of direct work experience in process improvement is required.
- Must have hands‑on experience using Lean tools and six sigma methodologies.
- Foundational understanding of process improvement principles, methodologies and tools.
- Strong analytical, statistical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong knowledge of project management and proficiency in using project management software.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Comfortability with working with both technical and administrative staff.
- Ability to learn and understand forensic laboratory workflows, terminology, and accreditation requirements. Knowledge in forensic science processes and procedures is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Microsoft Power BI experience is a plus.
- Experienced in working with cross‑organizational teams.
