Overview

Postdoctoral Fellow - Statistics in Multi-omics and Cancer. Full-time postdoctoral fellow position available in Dr. Ye Zheng's lab at the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The lab develops methods to decipher gene cis-regulatory mechanisms from transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics and 3D chromatin interaction perspectives. The position focuses on analyzing single-cell/bulk multi-omics data, spatial omics data, and image data to reveal cancer-specific mechanisms underlying differential treatment responses across patients.

The role involves developing statistical models and modern computational methods including ML, AI and LLM, with training in grant writing for early career development awards (e.g., K99, Damon Runyon).

• Leverage single-cell and bulk multi-omics data, spatial omics data, and image data to investigate cancer-specific mechanisms affecting treatment efficacy and toxicity.
• Develop and implement statistical models and computational tools to handle large-scale multimodal genomics data in cancer studies.
• Identify gaps between existing tools and practical research needs and apply modern ML/AI concepts to address them.
• Contribute to pioneering biological and clinically relevant research problems and advance methodological developments in computational genomics.
• Engage in grant writing and career development activities, with exposure to prestigious early career awards and training opportunities.

• Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Biology, Genomics, Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• Solid training in statistics/mathematics with coursework or research experience in statistical inference, linear regression, and related areas.
• Strong computational skills: proficient in R, Python, and shell; experience with Linux HPC environments and batch-job submission.
• Experience processing and analyzing bulk/single-cell genomic data, spatial omics data, or image data; ability to develop computational tools (R packages, Python modules, dashboards, pipelines).
• Ability to conduct organized, reproducible research and interpret genomic findings biologically.
• Strong communication and writing skills; publications or manuscripts under review demonstrating academic writing ability.

• MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions; salary ranges from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on years of postgraduate experience.
