Position Summary

A postdoc position provides an opportunity for early‑career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

The post‑doctoral fellow will work independently in a multidisciplinary supervised environment on murine and patient‑derived samples to study pathogenesis of GI diseases including aging pathways and cancer.

The selected candidate has experience working with cell culture and cell treatments as well as with lab‑based assays including protein and RNA based techniques. The post doc is expected to be able to draft results of the studies being generated on circadian and microbiota experiments.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Interpret and prepare results on omics data (circadian and microbiome related).
  • Develop and maintain organoids from human and mice samples.
  • Develop and maintain immune cells (i.e., macrophages, myofibroblasts, T cells).
  • Conduct in vitro growth of organoids, and immune cells, and perform and optimize co‑culture experiments in transwell.
  • Perform DNA extraction, gene expression (qPCR) and protein measurements (western blot, ELISA, and immunofluorescence).
  • Perform co-culture and optimize drug testing on cells and organoids.
  • Be familiar with high throughput knock‑in and knock‑out cell‑based screening.
  • Be familiar with liver image monitoring based on luciferase and fluorescence signals.
  • Work closely with bioinformatics platforms and scientists to generate outputs from circadian and microbiota data.
  • Analyze data and generate figures using scientific computer software (SPSS, R, Prism) and share data with the group for feedback as well as troubleshooting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education

Doctoral/Terminal Degree.

Knowledge:
Molecular biology, in vitro and in vivo experience;
Analytical, interpersonal ability to identify needs for projects and ordering appropriate equipment and necessary supplies to conduct studies.

Abilities:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scientific computer software (R, Prism) and basic imaging modalities (Adobe Photoshop, Image

J);
Knowledge of handling database.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
