Responsibilities
  • Research – 95% effort — Actively engage in basic science research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department. Develop programs of research and scholarly activities aligned with the department's goals. Synthesize diverse information in the area of research and, when needed, instruct research support personnel in protocol implementation. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support research; may require completion of grant applications and budget development/analysis.

    Contribute to the literature by publishing original research in peer‑reviewed journals. Design and perform molecular biology, cellular biology, and immunological assays for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. Develop independent projects to identify potential biomarkers for prostate cancer prognosis and develop therapies for advanced metastatic prostate cancer targeting novel biomarkers. Develop and maintain standard procedures and protocols to ensure quality and integrity of laboratory operations.

    Exercise initiative in planning experiments, evaluating results, and coordinating with other laboratory members and collaborators; provide expertise to troubleshoot problems. All projects require literature review, experimental design, alternative approaches, organization, timelines, data interpretation, and monthly progress reports to the supervisor and funding agencies.
  • Administrative – 5% effort — Participate in laboratory meetings to present findings, troubleshoot problems, and attend academic conferences for oral/visual presentations and posters. Write manuscripts, research proposals, apply for grant funding, and collaborate to advance research objectives including publications and conference presentations. Provide an integrated educational program in the design of research projects and deliver analytical presentations to medical residents, postdoctoral fellows, and students.

    Attend Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences. Supervise research projects conducted by graduate and undergraduate students. Assist the principal investigator in planning, coordinating, and carrying out collaborative research among investigators in a large cancer therapy, imaging, and diagnosis research group. The position requires a strong command of English (spelling, writing, and verbal communication).

This position has a target base salary of $65,000 to $80,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
