GX continues to expand rapidly and is now hiring a Sales Director in our Houston office to support our next phase of growth.
General Index (GX) is a the commodity benchmark provider based on the most data. We produce over ~5,200 daily energy prices - in crude oil & refined products, biofuels, hydrogen, and carbon markets - which our clients (such as Exxon, Bloomberg, BP, Shell and Two Sigma) use to make critical energy & investment decisions. GX’s unique approach collates thousands of trades from 240 data partners and applies expert-designed algorithms based on detailed methodologies to calculate prices.

20VC , GX has an experienced team with proven leadership – as well as a rapidly growing customer and partner base. With offices in London, Krakow, Houston, and Singapore, GX continues to expand rapidly and is now hiring a Sales Director in our Houston office to support our next phase of growth.
- Outbound prospecting to key personas on our target account list across energy, financial services and consulting industries.
- Carry out high quality qualification and discovery with outbound and inbound leads, both in online calls and in-person meetings.
- Feel comfortable building relationships with senior industry professionals, multi-threading to ensure we expand across strategic accounts using email, calls and Linked In.
- Develop a firm understanding of our data and markets – articulate how our technology and products solve problems and create opportunities for our customers.
- Use our sales and marketing stack to ensure rigour and efficiency, employing tools such as Hub Spot, Apollo, Linked In Sales Navigator, Post Hog and Gong to work in a data-driven way.
- Use AI to maximize your output. You experiment with our AI stack and new tools to automate and optimize certain parts of your workflow – booking more meetings and engaging more prospects at your target accounts.
- Manage a thriving pipeline, using sales methodology (e MEDPICC) to ensure we align with our ideal customer profiles and company goals.
- Experience selling software / data into energy and commodities markets is very nice to have, but not essential (we are open to profiles from adjacent industries).
- Curious. You know that being a great salesperson requires a strong understanding of our data, technology and industry marketplace, as well as going above and beyond to know our customers’ and prospects’ challenges inside out.
- Exceptionally proactive. At GX we hire smart people to tell us what to do, not to tell them what to do. If something is not entirely clear, you find a way by asking questions and experimenting – always working with urgency.
- Customer-centric. You care that our customers have a first-class experience with us and want them to thrive post-sale (not just during the sales process).
- Ambitious and driven. You are hungry, want to win and celebrate success with your team – ensuring we take GX to the next level.
- Resilient. You understand that prospecting is tough and are able to handle objections and rejections along the way. Cold calling is a big part of the job, and you understand that it takes practice and persistence to succeed when disrupting large and slow incumbent players.
- A team player. You enjoy collaborating with different departments in the business such as our index and data team.
- Commercially-savvy. You are comfortable working with numbers, working alongside our sales management to pull together complex proposals and be thoughtful about deal strategy to ensure performance vs quotas.
- Previous sales experience (which must include a track record of outbound prospecting).
- Ability to travel (occasionally) to visit prospects and customers in-person.
