Summary
The Safety & Risk Operations Specialist is a vital member of the school’s operations and safety team, who will work closely with the Safety & Security Manager to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role combines on-the-ground security responsibilities with emergency operations planning, threat awareness, and behavioral observation, supporting Duchesne’s proactive-approach to risk management and community safety. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates with safety and security experience in schools, military, safety, or emergency management who want to apply their skills in a mission-driven educational setting.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Participate in threat assessment processes, observing, documenting, and reporting concerning behaviors.
- Patrol and monitor campus facilities and grounds, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
- Manage visitor access, traffic control, and event security logistics.
- Provide professional de-escalation and conflict management support when needed.
- Respond to emergencies with sound judgment, assisting in evacuation, shelter-in-place, or medical response.
- Maintain accurate incident reports and contribute to after-action reviews.
- Serve as a visible, approachable, and professional presence that builds trust with students, staff, and families.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education /Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
- High School Diploma or GED (minimum): associate or bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field
- Appropriate license and experience to provide security services in a private school
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document incidents clearly and professionally
- Preferred experience in military, school safety, or emergency management.
- Preferred training in threat assessment, behavioral observation, or emergency operations
- Exercise good judgment in all safety and security duties
- Ability to build and maintain trust within the school community
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to security events
- Successful completion of criminal offenders’ records information and sexual offender registry checks.
- Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
- Current CPR certification.
May be required to push, pull, or lift 50 or more pounds; required to surveil and ambulate across the campus to assess or respond to safety and security risks. Long periods of standing and/or sitting at one station; frequent use of office equipment to provide documented safety incidents and other reports; respond to frequent loud and or sudden noises; possible exposure to odors, fumes, and or toxins;
must be able to respond to emergency events timely and appropriately; communicate, comprehend, and follow directions; use of radio or telephone to contact appropriate agencies to report emergency events; may work in extreme temperatures; can be periods of little activity or extremely stressful events.
