Overview
Join to apply for the Public Safety Security Dispatcher Full-Time (Days) role at Houston Methodist.
The Public Safety/Security Dispatcher position is responsible for providing support to the Public Safety/Security department through security system monitoring and dispatch support functions. This role operates centralized computer systems to dispatch, coordinate and document security requests on a continuous basis. It handles emergency situations requiring reliability, accuracy, flexibility, critical thinking, and proper documentation in stressful situations, with a customer service focus in communication.
Responsibilities- Promotes a positive, team-focused work environment and communicates security services information clearly to contribute to department results.
- Responds to requests for assistance from customers, employees and visitors with clear, professional communication to facilitate problem resolution.
- Processes service requests from incoming calls, faxes, and printouts by dispatching, coordinating and tracking.
- Receives and dispatches security to all emergency alarms. Monitors CCTV, safety, security access and emergency management systems; coordinates routine and emergency responses.
- Completes necessary logs, reports, and documentation of service requests and incidents according to guidelines.
- Contacts management for unusual circumstances to maintain patient safety and satisfaction; maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Assists in emergency situations, including security rounding.
- Monitors, operates, and responds to fire, elevator, and security alarms; responds to hospital codes and other emergencies and takes appropriate action.
- High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include GED, homeschool equivalency, etc.).
- Associates degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
- Five years of police or security-related experience, including three years in police, security or emergency dispatch.
- Security Officer Commissioned or Non-Commissioned License. SECUR-N: submission within 14 days of hire and obtained within one year; SECUR-C:
Level 3 or Personal Protection Officer Level 4 licensure within 14 days. - Driver License - must have a valid license;
Texas DL to be obtained within 90 days. - NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) within 60 days.
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
- Ability to safely perform the job with ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Proficiency in English for speaking, reading, and writing, especially regarding safety and security.
- Strong customer service and professional communication with staff and visitors.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Webmail).
- Ability to understand and work with technical security systems, hardware, and software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay calm under stress, handling confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to access information across department and hospital systems to support the department.
