Job Description:

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the police sergeant, the police officer’s main function is to prevent and suppress criminal activity and to ensure a safe and secure learning environment on campus. In addition, the police officer enforces governmental laws and regulations as well as university policies and procedures; performs police, traffic, crime prevention, and other duties. The police officer is responsible for safeguarding all university assets, enforcing traffic and parking regulations, investigating vehicle accidents and enforcing Federal, state, and local laws as well as university regulations and policies.

  • Patrol Effectiveness and Visibility
    • Metric:
      Completes assigned foot, bike, and vehicular patrols across designated campus areas with higher visibility and proactive engagement.
  • Incident Response and Report Accuracy
    • Metric:
      Responds to calls for service, including medical, criminal, and traffic incidents, in a timely, professional manner and produces accurate and complete documentation.
  • Policy Compliance and Community Service
    • Metric:
      Demonstrates knowledge and consistent enforcement of university policies, laws, and ordinances while maintaining a service-oriented approach with students, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist as a panel member during interview boards.
  • Assist the university community and visitors by providing general information.
  • Conduct courtesy services such as battery jump‑starts, opening locked vehicles, and airing tires.
  • Conduct patrol on Our Lady of the Lake Convent, McCollough and Regen Hall.
  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws and ordinances and University regulations and policies.
  • Investigate traffic accidents and criminal offenses and prepare investigation and special reports.
  • Make arrests and appear in court as required.
  • Monitor and provide traffic and parking enforcement.
  • Monitor external grounds lighting and generate work orders for light replacement when needed.
  • Open and close buildings, and turn lights on and off as needed.
  • Prevent and suppress crime by being highly visible and by performing aggressive and continuous foot, bike and vehicular patrol.
  • Provide escorts on campus when directed.
  • Provide security surveillance of university facilities.
  • Respond and assist with all emergency detentions.
  • Respond to all medical emergencies and must be First Aid/CPR and AED certified.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by a supervisor.
    Working Conditions:

    Work is performed in both office and field settings on a rotating shift schedule in all weather conditions.

    Tools and Equipment Used:

    Patrol vehicle, police radio, handgun, less‑than‑lethal weapons as required, handcuffs, first aid equipment, and personal computer including word processing software.
