Position Responsibilities- Drive and maneuver all types of heavy construction equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Cut and maintain slope or grade as called out in project plans.
- Follow project plans and instructions from the Foreman and Superintendent.
- Identify and avoid hazards and obstructions, including other equipment and workers.
- Load and haul construction materials and equipment.
- Account for and report daily activity; maintain accurate work records.
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively by phone or radio.
- Comply with safety requirements and participate in safety meetings.
- Stay focused and complete tasks safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects to the supervisor.
- Ensure company equipment is stored safely.
- Coordinate machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- All-around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in the construction field.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including uses, repair and maintenance, and practical applications.
- Ability to read plans and understand tasks at hand; operate heavy power equipment (grader, dozer with ripper, excavator, rubber tire loader).
- Experience in civil and heavy civil construction, especially earthworks.
- Ability to work in a team; strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and schedules.
- Ability to work productively under pressure; self-motivated with or without supervision.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that may include weekends and holidays.
- Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
- Ability to pass drug and background screening.
- Underground utility experience preferred.
- Current valid state commercial driver’s license and medical card preferred.
- Multi-skilled operator experience and equipment certification preferred.
