• Drive and maneuver all types of heavy construction equipment.
• Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Cut and maintain slope or grade as called out in project plans.
• Follow project plans and instructions from the Foreman and Superintendent.
• Identify and avoid hazards and obstructions, including other equipment and workers.
• Load and haul construction materials and equipment.
• Account for and report daily activity; maintain accurate work records.
• Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively by phone or radio.
• Comply with safety requirements and participate in safety meetings.
• Stay focused and complete tasks safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects to the supervisor.
• Ensure company equipment is stored safely.
• Coordinate machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals.
• Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
• Perform other duties as directed.

• All-around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in the construction field.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including uses, repair and maintenance, and practical applications.
• Ability to read plans and understand tasks at hand; operate heavy power equipment (grader, dozer with ripper, excavator, rubber tire loader).
• Experience in civil and heavy civil construction, especially earthworks.
• Ability to work in a team; strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and schedules.
• Ability to work productively under pressure; self-motivated with or without supervision.
• Flexibility to work a schedule that may include weekends and holidays.
• Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
• Ability to pass drug and background screening.

• Underground utility experience preferred.
• Current valid state commercial driver’s license and medical card preferred.
• Multi-skilled operator experience and equipment certification preferred.
