Once the facility is ready for occupation, GSD provides energy, property and security management services to ensure the lights come on and the facility is clean, well-maintained and secure. The General Services Department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III
, who will provide general and skilled preventive and corrective maintenance on various HVAC, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment. This role is responsible for conducting routine maintenance checks, completing maintenance tasks to repair and preserve the quality of a facility.

This position also is responsible for performing the following duties but is not limited to:

• Will require driving to inspect various systems and equipment and makes required corrections and tests for satisfactory and safe operations.
• Use internal work order management system to record and document equipment history.
• Additionally, this person may also perform maintenance duties such as carpentry, plumbing, and roofing repairs as part of a comprehensive facilities maintenance team.
• Perform quality checks on HVAC, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems.
• Groundskeeping if the facility contains lawns or other outdoor areas in need of maintenance.
• May perform other duties as needed.

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.

Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
