Role Overview

As a Carpenter, you will execute skilled carpentry work according to project plans and supervisory instruction. Under general supervision you will perform master‑level work in the design, construction, repair, and maintenance of structures and related facilities.

Responsibilities

Perform rough skilled carpentry based on blueprints, specifications, drawings, or instructions. Inspect work for compliance with specifications and building codes. Maintain a neat workspace and tools. Lead other staff and helpers as needed.

Key Tasks (How you will do it)
  • Complete skilled carpentry/structural work according to instructions, project specifications, and plans.
  • Act as lead worker to other classified staff and helpers/laborers in the area.
  • Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and service small tools/equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to contract requirements and report back to the supervisor.
  • Assist in inspections, testing, and reviewing of specifications for general carpentry project specification requirements.
  • Maintain a neat workspace and organize tools, materials, and supplies throughout the day.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and participate in safety meetings.
  • Review daily task assignments and clarify any material needs with the supervisor.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of civil underground, structural bridge elements, pile driving operations, concrete formwork systems, and structural steel erection.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction materials, terms, and practices.
  • Excellent carpentry techniques and installation methods.
  • Proficiency with electrical and manual equipment, measurement tools.
  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Analytical and interpersonal problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of master‑level experience as a carpenter in heavy highway or structural operations, commercial, industrial, or military construction settings, including rough carpentry.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle under the company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to provide own basic carpentry/structural hand tools.
  • Experience on federal government projects.
