What you will do at Harris County Precinct 2

Under general supervision of Public Works Superintendent, the Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily work assignments and supervising the assigned crew in areas related to maintenance on county roadways, easements, and culverts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares, schedules and oversees daily work assignments, performs all jobs in a safe and timely manner
  • Ensures that workers obey all safety & policy regulations
  • Documents all work activities, develop traffic control plan, work zone plan and utility locate request
  • Investigates service requests, communicates with supervisor, documents and determines a solution
  • Operates light and heavy construction equipment as needed, inspects equipment to verify that no hazardous conditions exist
  • Prepares and utilizes road materials as needed, including: asphalt, gravel, limestone, concrete and crack sealer, etc.
  • Trains employees on use of all tools and equipment utilized
  • Performs any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned

Education:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
Experience:
  • Three (3) years’ of road maintenance experience
Certification:
  • Must possess a Class “A” Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement (Endorsement can be acquired within 180 days)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided
  • Ability to document activities both written and electronic; utilize work order management system
  • Ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of management, staff, and public
  • Knowledgeable of leadership skills, principles, methods, practices, materials, equipment, traffic control and tools used in road & drainage maintenance operations
  • Knowledgeable of Harris County specifications and drawings

  • 40 hours a week | Day or Night Shift | Hours may vary based on business needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events. Situations may require additional hours without prior notice. Required to work on-site during an emergency event.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials. Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance.
