Traffic Systems Technician I or II – (2503356)
TxDOT is looking for a Traffic Systems Technician I or II, based in Houston's Traffic Systems Construction Office at 6810 Old Katy Rd. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of our project office construction team. As a Traffic Systems Technician, you will be dealing daily with a wide variety of construction projects related to Computerized Traffic Management System (CTMS), Signal Interconnect, Highway Safety Lighting, Traffic Signals, School Zones, Striping, etc.
within the Houston District area. As an authorized utility representative, the Traffic Systems Technician will be responsible for the daily management of requested utility accounts and maintaining an active spreadsheet list. You will attend an on-site visit and/or coordination meeting with the service provider, contractor, and TxDOT representatives.

Performs entry-level work activities related to the installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of traffic systems, communication, illumination and/or data collection devices/systems. Work may be performed in heavy traffic and may require extensive statewide travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
TrafficSystems Technician II
Performs routine work activities related to the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance, and programming of traffic systems, communication, illumination, and/or data collection devices/systems. Work may be performed in heavy traffic and may require extensive statewide travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Assists in inspecting construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, and maintain traffic related systems/equipment in accordance with plans and specifications and contract requirements.
Assists in installing, maintaining, modifying, adjusting, testing, troubleshooting, inspecting and/or repair of electronic traffic control, communication, traffic data collection, and/or illumination systems.
Assists in responding to complaints and identifying problems regarding traffic signal timing/traffic congestion and assists in developing recommendations for long-term solutions.
Assists in working with other governmental and private entities concerning utilities and rights-of-way.
Learns to identify, troubleshoot, problem solve and identify possible new site characteristics.
Responds to emergency situations to assist with repair and maintenance of traffic signals, systems, lighting or traffic data collection equipment.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Traffic Systems Technician II – Additional ResponsibilitiesAttends meetings with Area Engineers and contractors to resolve problems and implement solutions.
