About Us
American Construction Skills is a new Houston-based training center for construction equipment operators. We are certified WMBE/HUB/DBE/SBE by the City of Houston. Our facility includes a 3,000 sq ft auto shop, a 28,000 sq ft fenced demonstration yard, and a separate practical training yard on Alief Clodine Road.
About the Role
We are hiring a hands-on Diesel Mechanic who can also run construction equipment. You will keep our training fleet safe and ready to use. When needed, you will also operate equipment for demonstrations, yard moves, and practical training sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines and hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain systems on construction equipment.
- Maintain our training fleet: mobile cranes, backhoes, a mini excavator, a skid steer, a telehandler, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on schedule and keep accurate service records.
- Complete pre-use and periodic equipment inspections, and tag out unsafe equipment.
- Operate equipment for loading and unloading, yard movement, and training demonstrations.
- Order parts and keep the shop organized, clean, and safe.
- Support instructors during practical training sessions as needed.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working on diesel engines. This is required.
- Experience operating construction equipment such as backhoes, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, or telehandlers.
- Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
- Your own basic hand tools.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and to work outdoors in Houston weather.
- Must live in the Houston area. No relocation assistance is offered.
