The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed, and

contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.

The purpose of the Semi-Skilled Laborer in the Horticulture& Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport

System is to safely and efficiently operate minor equipment to perform a series of manual activities and tasks supporting

the goal of “Opening Day Fresh” by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective,

efficient, and proactive maintenance.

“Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within

6 months from the hire date.

The Semi-Skilled Laborer responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities and equipment, i.e. household activities,fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles

Performs minor fence repairs

Operates power and hand tool equipment

May operate vehicles to and from work locations

Monitors inventory control

Trash & debris removal from boulevards, terminals, and other public spaces

Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required

Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired

through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.

Six months of working experience are required.

Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

The availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays preferred

Any experience with using minor Mowing and Power equipment2 years of experience utilizing weed eating & zero turn mower operation equipment.

** Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among themost qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment

test.

If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if it is a promotional position, candidate must pass an

assignment drug test.
