- CAC I. looks for a Software Engineer to perform systems and software engineering as well as design and development for the onboard Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM).
- Participate and lead design deep dives to advance VSM software technologies and define new VSM algorithms.
- Develop VSM ground software tools.
- The Gateway in lunar orbit will support astronaut habitation and provide easy access to the lunar surface for exploration; it will also serve as a test bed for developing planetary exploration spacecraft technologies.
- Must be self‑motivated, capable, with strong verbal and written communication and problem‑solving skills. Outstanding technical expertise, strong customer relationship skills, positive team‑player attitude, flexibility, and willingness to take on new assignments are required.
- The work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, in a highly stimulating and dynamic environment critical to human spaceflight and space exploration.
- Develop ground software tools to interface with the onboard VSM.
- Develop and maintain VSM Reference Implementation software using the Core Flight Software (cFS) framework.
- Advance VSM Software technologies through design deep dives.
- Interface with software and simulation systems to understand behavior and design.
- Use custom and commercial tools (SharePoint, Confluence, Jira) to access and maintain artifacts.
- Interface with NASA and spacecraft designer engineering teams.
- Interface with domestic and international Gateway partners.
- Provide creative solutions for constrained schedules and resources in a fast‑paced environment.
- Develop detailed knowledge of overall Gateway and individual spacecraft module design through design evolution.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to U.S.G. facilities.
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Experience developing software in a Linux environment.
- Experience with complex systems.
- Evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.
- Ability to succeed in fast‑paced environments.
- Flexibility and openness to new challenges in a dynamic environment.
- Technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.

- M.S. in Electric, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- Two or more years of software development experience.
- Experience with Agile software development environments and methodologies.
- Experience with software testing.
- Experience with NASA’s Core Flight Software (cFS) framework.
- Experience with data‑driven software systems.
- Experience with distributed complex systems.
- Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, and Jira.
- Experience using Git Lab and the Git version control system.
- Experience in automated testing, including developing unit, integration, and verification tests.
- Autonomous or remotely controlled systems (e.g., satellites, autonomous cars, unmanned aerial vehicles), or
- Avionics and flight software development for human‑rated space vehicles (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, Orion Multi‑Purpose Crew Vehicle).
- Experience in the full life cycle of human‑rated space vehicle flight projects (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, Orion, or Lunar Gateway).
This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately; however, it is representative of positions within CACI that are consistently available. Applicants may also be considered for other positions at CACI.
Pay Range$63,800 – 127,500 USD
