Japanese Area Scout – Independent Contractor

Join the Houston Astros International Scouting team as an Independent Contractor based in Japan. The position is based in Japan and supports the Astros’ International Scouting department.

The Houston Astros are currently seeking an International Area Scout in Japan. The responsibilities include identifying and recruiting talent to support the efforts of the International Scouting department in the assigned region. The International Area Scout will be an Independent Contractor.

• Identify and evaluate potential international prospects throughout the assigned region in both the amateur and professional markets.
• Produce written and verbal player assessments in a timely manner.
• Interact regularly with agents, coaches, and others throughout the baseball community in the assigned region to aid in player identification and evaluation.
• Assist in the process of collecting, processing, and analyzing player data and video to streamline evaluations across player markets.
• Gauge a player’s overall makeup through personal interviews and other various channels.
• Interact with Astros field and office staff to ensure coverage of the area that encapsulates a holistic player evaluation process through scouting looks, data/video analysis, and additional information sources as required.
• Host Astros scouting and front office staff during scouting trips in Japan.

• Japanese language fluency required.
• English language proficiency required; fluency a plus.
• Valid passport for international travel required.
• Strong baseball knowledge and foundation for evaluation abilities required.
• Experience in the international baseball market, particularly in the assigned region as a player, coach, scout, executive, etc., is required.
• Understanding and appreciation of baseball analytics preferred.
• Professional playing experience a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university a plus.
• Experience with SQL and SQL databases a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including scouts, players, trainers, and front office members.
• Demonstrated passion for baseball and intellectual curiosity.

• 日本語で業務遂行が可能なレベル
• 英語での業務遂行能力（流暢であれば尚可）
• 有効なパスポートを所持していること
• 野球に関する豊富な知識と選手評価の経験
• 日本野球界での実務経験（選手、コーチ、スカウト、トレーナー、球団スタッフなど）
• ベースボールアナリティクスへの理解・関心
• プロ野球選手としての経験
• 四年制大学卒以上
• SQLまたはSQLデータベースの使用経験
• 野球に対する強い情熱と探究心をお持ちの方
• 高いコミュニケーション能力と対人スキル
• 担当地域での国際野球関連の実務経験
