POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Wellness Coordinator, the PT Trainer, Fitness provides group fitness instruction, monitors and educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.
- Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
- Instructs Wellness Center patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
- Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
- Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
- Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
- Ensures that safety standards are met, and the department and facility policies are adhered to.
- Provides CPR and first aid in emergency situations.
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate music, tempo, cueing and rhythm as it applies to choreographed class formats.
- Demonstrated ability to be professional and motivate class participants.
- Demonstrated ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
- Physical capability to perform frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, overhead reaching, lifting and carrying.
- Physically capable of performing heavy lifting (50 pounds).
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Schedule And Conditions- Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, phone and other assorted fitness equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- Work is performed in a climate‑controlled space with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess current CPR, AED, first aid certification.
- Must possess a current Certified Group Fitness Instructor national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA) or equivalent.
Hourly Pay Rate is $27.14.
