A Bus Driver – Flex is responsible for safely driving students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Director of Transportation, and is subject to all of the same qualifications, essential functions, rules and regulations of a school bus driver. A Bus Driver – Flex will serve as substitute bus driver and provide route training to drivers as needed.

- Possess a Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class
B) with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements. - Possess a Medical Examiner’s Certificate for commercial driver medical certification.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- CPI and CPR certification.
- Possess the certification for the State School Bus Driver Training Certification Course.
- Proven record as a Spring ISD driver for a minimum of one year.
- Meets all of the state and federal requirements of a school bus driver.
- Possess mental maturity and emotional stability to operate vehicle safely with distractions from sometimes loud and boisterous students.
- Demonstrates ability to adjust to different assignments daily.
- Demonstrates ability to adjust to different student populations daily.
- Demonstrates ability to adjust to different campus administrators and different needs of schools.
- Ability to drive any bus assigned to the route.
- Ability to operate and install various SPED adaptive equipment.
- Ability to work well with students with various disabilities.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid Training.
- Knowledge of the Spring ISD district – streets, schools, neighborhoods, apartment complexes, and district facilities.
- Drive bus while following assigned route.
- Abide by the time schedule of assigned route(s).
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Maintain student discipline on the bus in a positive and caring manner.
- Work with Route Manager and school administrators to resolve cases of misbehavior.
- Load and unload students as required to maintain a daily schedule.
- Follow established safety procedures including emergency evacuation of students when the situation warrants and administering first aid and/or CPR if necessary.
- Maintain current route maps and folders.
- Maintain seating charts for elementary and middle school students.
- Maintain a clean bus interior.
- Administer State Count on the appropriate days.
- Administer basic first aid as trained when necessary.
- Resource Drivers will be assigned routes to drive as needed; must be capable of driving any route in the district.
- Ride along with drivers to observe and coach drivers and attendants as assigned.
- Willing to work flexible and prolonged hours, weekends and holidays.
- Report for work consistently and adhere to established routes and schedules as assigned, arrange appointments and personal business so as not to interfere with scheduled duties.
- Perform office duties at the discretion of the Transportation Administrators.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, prolonged sitting, repetitive hand and arm motions, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require traveling within the district. Mental demands: maintain emotional control, ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written English for safety reasons.
Environmental conditions:
work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold) and vehicle fumes.
