Director of Operations - Transportation
Duty Days: 238 Days
Wage/Hour Status:
Exempt
Pay Grade: B05

Qualifications:
Associate degree (preferred);
College hours, High School diploma or GED (required)
TAPT certification (or able to obtain within three years of hire)
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (preferred)
Five years of demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability (written and oral) to interview, counsel and communicate with other employees and patrons
Five years of management/supervisory experience in school transportation
Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills
Primary Purpose:
Supervise and evaluate the day-to-day activities and work output of all the employees assigned to a transportation center. Provide leadership and direction of all employees at a transportation center to effect safe and on time transport of students and KISD employees. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, fax machine, digital camera, digital projector, SMARTtag tablet, Safety Vision and cell phone. School bus and district vehicles, two-way radios and telephones. School buses, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.)
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate performance of the personnel and operations of the transportation center.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress to include situations involving vehicle accidents/injury. Frequent district wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; ability to conduct on-site inspections of all vehicle repair and maintenance operations. Exposed to heat, dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension.
Able to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits.
